Review of Montblanc Villeret Vintage 1858 Chronographe

January 7th, 2010 by Vivian Lau

A few watches ago, famous watch maker Montblac released its first batch of new watches for 2010. And the Montblanc Collection Villeret Vintage 1858 Chronographe Watch is one of my favorites. This watch features a retro “snail shell” tachymetre scale which is often seen on vintage chronograph watches in the center. And there is another telemeter scale placed at the periphery of the dial. Like most people, I have no idea how to use these vintage measuring devices. But I really like the cool touch they bring to the watch.

The dial is made from high-quality enamel that makes those numerals and scales stand out for optimal reading. And the Arabic hour markers are in the brand’s iconic font. The hands, made in blued steel, are also very retro.
The Montblanc Collection Villeret Vintage 1858 Chronographe Watch, sized at 43.5mm,  is limited to just 116 pieces worldwide. And 58 pieces are made in 18k red gold and are completed by brown alligator straps, while the other 58 pieces are presented on 18k white gold and come with black alligator straps.

As we know, Montblanc own Minerva. So it is no surprising that the watch houses a retro Minerva caliber 16-29 manually would column wheel chronograph movement. And the 30 minute chronograph is operated through a pusher at the crown.
