F.P. Journe Chronometre Bleu Review
November 28th, 2009 by Vivian Lau
Inspired by the Chronomètre Souverain, F.P. Journe proudly unveil its latest creation – the Chronometre Bleu watch which boasts high precision and perfect Chronometric virtues. And this new piece also pushes the brand to new high in watch making.
The Chronometre Bleu, sized at 39mm, is done in Tantalum, a rare metal with grayish blue tint. Tantalum is normally used in aeronautical applications due to its high resistance to corrosion and wear. But is rarely applied in watch making since it has a fusion temperature of 3000° and a density of 16.3 and thus very hard to manipulate. And the watch makers of F.P. Journe succeed in introducing Tantalum in modeling watch cases for the first time.
The chrome blue dial perfectly matched with the nature tones of the case. Without power reserve indicator, it is a simplified version of the Chronomètre Souverain. The slim hands and the elegant Arabic numerals are one of the most impressive marriages I have ever seen. Together, they offer highly legible time reading all the day round. And small seconds subdial with beautiful guilloché decor appears at 7:30. And the label “Invenit et Fecit” at 12 means that each F.P.Journe exclusive movement guarantees a manufacture calibre, invented, constructed, and assembled entirely in our Geneva workshops.
Well, beating inside the watch is the Calibre 1304 bearing the the label “Invenit et Fecit”. This hand-wound movement is done in 18K rose gold and beats at a frequency of 21,600vph. It is fitted with two barrels that ensure the watch with adorable 56-hour power reserve. You may enjoy the the balance and escapement through the display case back.
The Chronomètre Bleu will be available in November at all F.P.Journe Boutiques in New York, Beijing, Paris, Tokyo, Geneva, Hong Kong and Boca Raton, as well as throughout all authorized F.P.Journe retailers worldwide
