Bulgari will exhibite the brand new collection of the Gerald Genta watches at the upcoming Baselworld 2010. And I am holding breath for that moment. And the big star in this collection should be the new Octo Grand Sonnerie Tourbillon. The price tag will be very high, though the dial layout is quite simple compared with that of the Gerald Genta Arena Metasonic watch that,  I guess,  has same or quite similar movement as the Octo Grand Sonnerie Tourbillon(given they have quite identical features). The former asks for $900,000.

Well, they have some differences though very small, including time display and the arrangement of subdials. The Octo Grand Sonnerie display hour in a retrograde method, and the minute via a disc. Both looks very cool, but it may takes longer for the wearer to realize the time. And it has four automobile gauges-like subdials including power reserve indicators for the watch and the sonnerie (chiming mechanism).you can turn on/off/down up the sonnerie as well. So you can not deny that this is a quite user-friendly watch.

The case, sized at 43mm, is crafted from 18k white gold. One side of the case has a series of pushers to control the above mention functions. And the case back reveals the breath-taking details of the hand-wound mechanical movement which is highly complex.This simple looking yet quite complicated watch will be sure launched in a very limited number. And the price must be in the astronomical range.

Guess who is the newest ambassador of the Swiss watch brand Hublot? Well, it is Diego Maradona, a big figure in the football world, who is now the coach of Argentina ‘s national team. He was spotted wearing watch on both hands, two Rolex watch not Hublot. Anyway, with worldwide  awareness, Maradona has been appointed as the newest ambassador of Hublot watches.

The player of the 20^th century had a meeting with Hublot and reached a mutual understanding. And a watch bearing name of Maradonna has been manufactured, which marks the beginning of the partnership. And Maradona himself now owns the very first Hublot Big Bang Maradona watch.

Sized at 44.5mm, the case is presented on black ceramic that features fine micro-blasted finishing. And the bezel, having 6 the brand’s signature H-shaped titanium screws, is made of the same material.The crown and the chronograph pusher buttons are crafted from black-PVD coated steel with rubber inserts.Like other Hublot watches, the watch case has lateral inserts that made from black composite resin as well. The black ceramic case back has been fitted with a sapphire crystal that depicts the exciting scene that Maradona raised his arms for victory.

The black dial, protected by a sapphire crystal of internal anti-reflective coating, has applied the Argentina blue and/or luminescent white on the hands and hour markers. To honor the football sport, there is a  45-minute sub-dial at 9 o’clock.And the small seconds hand sweeps above the lucky number 10 at 3’clock.And the date aperture is located at 6 o’clock Of course, the white is not completed if without Maradona’s signature.

Beating inside is the HUB1146 calibre with 55 jewels. This automatic movement has a power reserve of a 42-hour power reserve.And the watch itself is completed by a alligator/rubber strap with a black PVD-coated steel deployant clasp.

Swiss watch maker Alpina is going to release the brand new Extreme Tourbillon Regulator Manufacture watch. This new Alpina watch stems from the Alpina extreme watch line that is very famous, and that is part of the reason that it has an “extreme” in its name. And it will be launched as a limited edition of just 36 pieces worldwide.

As know to all watch lovers, regulator watches are unique to the tourbillon movement field. And this piece is right a regulator watch. Beating inside is the AL-980 automatic tourbillon movement which indepently designed, made and assembled by Alpina. The movement does not have even a single part that comes from outside Alpina. It has also been fitted with a silicium lever and escapement wheel, which adds points to this luxury watch. But if you are not that into the watch world, it may difficult for you to understand what they mean for a luxury watch.

Sized at 48mm, the watch is available in two versions. One features a brushed titanium case and pink gold bezel and the other has a pink gold case and a black ceramic bezel.Both versions look great. Personally, I love the titanium versiom much better.

The markers on the dial are impressive on the dial, and the hands in skeletonized bubble baton shape has a nice sporty touch. And the tourbillon is well constructed. Overall, the watch looks simple, sporty and elegant. It will look very better on the wrist.

As an limited edition luxury watch, its price tag must be very high. But it will help to promote the brand itself and those cheaper watches from this Swiss brand.

In recent years, Jaeger Lecoultre’s Extreme Lab 2 always steal the show whereever it apprears. At 39,000€, I afraid you can not get another watch that has been equipped with as many as complications like Extreme Lab 2. Aside from having a technically competitive price, it may start a brand new direction for the brand, which I think is much more important. And the controversy on this piece never stop these years, which, in my humble opinion, proves that it is really a successful piece. In fact, it is indeed a hot seller

The watch, composed of more than 500 parts, has a TiVan 15 case, an adjustable buckle and a ceramic bezel. The watch functions/complications include a radial power reserve indicator, digital minutes 24-hour chrono, date, GMT, function selector, anti-magnetic mechanism, reset to zero seconds. And you may feel you have a bargain after browsing the long list above. And the watch is limited to just 500 pieces, 300 pieces in titanium and 200 pieces in rose gold.

Based on the first Extreme Lab, the Extreme Lab 2 carried not a few the original design and technical features. The size has been increased to 46mm, which may make most Jaeger customers a bit difficult to accept. Luckily , it has two lovely features that can make up the size issue. Firstly, it inherits the Extreme Lab 1’s strap ball-bearing mechanism; Secondly, the case bottom has comfortable curvature. These two features ensure the wearer an idea fit and comfortable wearing experience

And the watch actually looks much better on the wrist than o=off the wrist. And the watch has other flaws. The is not easy to read the time clear at night though it has large hands and indices. I think the problem comes from the fact that the minutes hand is too long and its tip just cover the indices. At night due to the lack of Luminova, the tip just disappears when in front of any of the indices making the hours and minutes almost indistinguishable. And the white and red color combination is not clear enough for the power reserve. Personally, I think white and black should be a much better option.

Despite the above mentioned flaws and regrets, The Extreme Lab 2 is still a great watch deserve attention and the price tag.

Not a few people know and love high-end quartz watches by Girard Perregaux. The new quartz watch is powered by a caliber GP13500 quartz movement that is assembled by hand and nicely decorated. Via the sapphire crystal on the case back, you can admire the movement with a gold cap on the the battery compartment.

The case and the bracelet are well constructed on steel. The red seconds hand and the red 32.768hz wording nicely set off the over dark hue that is decent, cool and attractive. The dial is simple yet stylish and very easy to read. Thanks to the quartz watch revolution, the watch is highly accurate. And that is one of its real allures. And the watch comes with a space presentation box with a nice retro touch.

The watch is limited to 40 pieces only. And I think the small quantity is far from being enough for the demand. The retail prices a bit over $11,000. I think many watch collectors will love the high-end Swiss quartz watch.

To be honest, I really hope fashion brands like Hermes can create timeless classic watches rather than a instant fashion timepieces. By the way, the Clipper chronograph is available in back , orange or brown rubber, steel and titanium bracelet. Beating inside is an automatic Valjoux 7750 mechanical movement that has been nicely decorated.

Overall, the Hermes Clipper is the right line to choose from if you want to add a decent looking sporty watch.

This is the new skeleton skeleton watch offering from Audemars Piguet Royal Oak line. I has never expected this watch woule be made. But I am not very suprising as this brand has offered not a few skelonized watches that are quite well-received.

The watch, in stardard Royal Oak case, is crafted from stainless stainless or the rose gold. The Audemars Piguet in-house made automatic movementmovement has been nicely skeletonized and become the main theme of the dial.The surface of the exposed movement is given a decent gray look via refine rhodium plating. The case back is fitted with a sapphire crystal glass to reveal the 22k gold automatic rotor featuring exquisite engravings. The finish of the watch is perfect, and the function is excellent as well. The dial is still very easy to read thanks to the use of the chapter ring with applied luminous hour markers and minute indicators

Personally, I think this Royal Oak skeleton watch will attract not a few Audemars Piguet watches owner who want to add a watch with nice presentation of the movement. And this watch is also a good choice for those who love skeletonized watches.

The steel version, fitted with a steel bracelet, goes for $30,100; The rose gold version, with a brown crocodile strap, costs $45,500

Bad News comes from watch movement making industry again. It is probable that BNB Concept, the well-known and world-recognized movement maker, will declare bankruptcy soon. Regarded by many as a big star in the hen-end watch industry, BND Concept provided high complex and expensive movements to lots of watch brands. For instance,  BND Concept sold tourbillon movements to many brands that cannot or would rather not make those highly complicated movements. And to my knowledge, BNB Concept had their own brand that worked with Confrerie Horlogere. Under the steer of Mathias Buttet, this brand has contributed a lot to the industry since it was founded And it is weird that BNB will come to the edge of brancruptcy given the fact that it has been so popular.

Well, it is reported the brand has lots of customers who have not paid their purchases and thus has ons of unpaid bills, which results in big cash flow problem. As we know, big movement company like BNB Concept has to pay their experienced artisans, maintain their high-tech facilities and expensive machinery, and put big money into develop, research and design. When the cash flow problem occurs, the company can not stay in normal business.

BND Concept will announce bankruptcy soon. And it is likely that this company will close it doors given that no company would like to buy it and no customers wants to pay the bills.It is so sad to hear this news as a lover of high end watches. And it is bad news for the for the watch industry as well
